Musical Biography
Shawn Roberts
Shawn Roberts is the current Music Teacher at Saunders Elementary School, where he teaches Grades K-5 and is the Music Director for the Saunders Elementary School Fifth Grade Chorus. He holds a Bachelor of Music Education Degree (B.M.E.) from Old Dominion University and a Five Year Collegiate License from the Virginia Department of Education.

Mr. Roberts has studied violin, viola and piano with the faculty of Old Dominion University, including Amadi Hummings and Leslie Stewart on Violin, Jennifer Snyder on Viola and Marilyn Forman on piano.

Other than his current position at Saunders Elementary School, Mr. Roberts has held positions as librarian and manager for the Old Dominion University Symphony Orchestra, librarian and assistant manager for the Bay Youth Orchestras of Virginia, tone chime instructor for the Very Special Arts of Virginia and beginning/intermediate violin teacher at Parkview Elementary School in Portsmouth, VA.

Past performances include ensembles such as the Old Dominion University Symphony Orchestra, Old Dominion University Percussion Ensemble and Bay Youth Orchestras of Virginia. Other performances include his Recital on April 3, 2006 where he performed music of Telemann, Clarke and Bridge, Conducting the Dozier Middle School Orchestra and the Warwick High School Orchestra, and most recently his conducting the Saunders Elementary School Fifth Grade Chorus.

Mr. Roberts plans to pursue a Master of Music Education Degree (M.M.E.) with an emphasis in conducting in the near future. As well, Mr. Roberts works hard to be a positive influence on his students, as well as other Music Education Candidates by presenting at workshops to help students become better teachers.
